Netferry explores Northern France with kids

Northern France is a great place to take kids. If you are arriving from southern English or Irish ports into one of three ports on the northern coast, Dieppe, Roscoff and Cherbourg you won't be disappointed. The ferry trip is an adventure in itself for children, so remember to make it fun from the moment you leave dry land!

Dieppe

The beach in Dieppe is excellent at low tide, as there is plenty of sand for kids to make sandcastles and dams. The beach is generally kept clean and free of litter, there are plenty of cafes and places to get food along the waterfront. Le Carré is a great place to take children, as it has indoor and outdoor swimming, complete with a water slide, Jacuzzis and water games. While your kids have fun splashing around, the parents can relax on the sun terrace or try out the gym which overlooks the pool. After some fun in the water, head to the nearby mini-golf to try your hand at putting to entertain everyone in the family and satisfy even the most competitive siblings! If your kids prefer extreme sports, then the skate park is just nearby.

Roscoff

If your children enjoy the excitement of the ferry, then a little boat trip to Ile de Batz will also make them happy. It only takes around 15 minutes to reach this tranquil little island and once you get there, if your children are old enough, hire some bikes, and you can explore the island together. Do not miss the beautiful views from the lighthouse on the island. If everyone is tired afterwards, then head to the seafront and get onboard Le P'tit Train de Roscoff. The driver will point out some beautiful tourist spots in both English and French.

Cherbourg

The Cité de la Mer is a maritime museum and the best place to take kids in Cherbourg. Located in the cruise terminal, it opened in 2002 as a scientific and historical museum, around four axes. Firstly the Redoutable, a French Navy submarine that converted into the largest submarine in the world open to the public. A cylindrical aquarium that is 8 metres wide and 10 metres high, displaying the succession of marine life forms at different depths. There is also the great hall, where they hold temporary maritime expositions and a new virtual underwater expedition. This place is awe-inspiring and should keep the whole family busy for most of the day!
