Five places to visit on a family holiday to Corsica

May has arrived! It's the perfect month to have an unforgettable holiday on the French island of Corsica. The island has a really varied landscape that includes both stunning mountains and crystal clear coastlines - you and your family will be spoilt for choice. Almost half of Corsica lies within a protected nature reserve, which means there are great hiking trails for all abilities. This wild island is perfect for a family holiday as you can have fun and adventures, or simply enjoy total relaxation on the many white-sand beaches, lapped by the Mediterranean.

Netferry's first tip for your family holiday is to avoid visiting Corsica in August! Take advantage of the ferry connections from early May onwards, to fully appreciate the island's tranquillity without having to suffer the crowds and high summer temperatures! We also recommend renting a car when you arrive, it makes it much easier to get around as public transport takes quite a while!

The first place we recommend for you and your little ones is the medieval town of Bonifacio. There’s a fun little tourist train near the port that travels down to the sea, it's a lovely journey for you and the kids. Bonifacio sits on a limestone clifftop, 70 meters above sea level, so the views are amazing! The second stop is Porto Vecchio, where the kids can take a ride on a traditional carousel in the main square. The old town is made up of narrow, winding stone streets, which are a joy to explore and there is a photo opportunity around every corner! And after a long walk, don't forget to grab a delicious ice cream from the shop in front of the old carousel! For the adults, don’t forget to try one of the more than forty craft beers!

For something educational, check out the standing stones nestled amongst the hills of the Taravo Valley in Filitosa, the largest megalithic stone site in Corsica. Although standing stones are typically associated with Brittany and the British Isles, Corsica is also home to many examples of these mystifying prehistoric monuments.

Take your family for a day at the biopark on the west coast of southern Corsica to gain a new appreciation for Corsican flora and fauna. The Olva biopark lies in the mountains and there are horses, donkeys, ponies, rams, rabbits, goats and geese for your kids to discover - they can even take a pony ride!

Corsica’s coastline is magnificent, so bathing in the sea here is a must! Netferry’s favourite choice is in Ajaccio, at Place Miot, a beach with a great playground with slides and places where children can climb nets and cubes. And then twenty kilometres from Ajaccio, in Cupulatta, is the largest turtle conservation centre in Europe! It's a turtle city! Featuring species from all over the world and Corsica.
