Guide of Ajaccio

Ajaccio is a French city located along the southwest coast of Corsica is a very pleasant place to spend a holiday with a beautiful sea and lots of amenities.

Historical sites 

The history of Ajaccio begins with the ancient Greeks, who called it Agationm which means 'good port' for its favorable location. It was conquered by the Romans and then passed to the Vandals and the Lombards. Around the year 1000 the island was occupied by the Pisans and then conquered by the Genoese who built the part of the fortified city and moved 100 Ligurian families there, including the famous Bonaparte family. 

Places to visit

In the streets of the historical center you can sense Napoleon's and it is possible to visit the Emperor's birthplace; Place Foch, in the heart of the city center. From the main square you can take a tour of Ajaccio, lined with bars where you can sip a drink under palm trees and pastel-colored historic buildings. In Place de Gaulle there is an impressive bronze statue of Napoleon, built in 1865 under Napoleon III.

Beaches 

At Calanchi di Piana, there are wide red cliffs facing the sea. Barbicaja beach has soft white sand and turquoise sea, it is quite and there is a restaurant there, the beach is located on the Sanguinarie road. Petit Capo is the ideal beach for those who love water sports and in particular surfing, it is crowded and windy. Gran Capo di Feno, on the other hand, is one of the most extensive and wild beaches, with a section dedicated to nudism.
